Michelle Scrimgeour prend la tête de Legal & General IM
Le patron s'en ira en août. Michelle Scrimgeour rejoint la liste des quelques puissantes femmes dans la gestion d'actifs.

Après six mois de recherches, Legal & General a trouvé sa nouvelle directrice générale pour la gestion d’actifs. Selon le Financial Times c’est le cabinet Korn Ferry qui était à la manoeuvre. Des candidatures externes et internes ont été envisagées. Et c’est finalement Michelle Scrimgeour, directrice générale de Columbia Threadneedle EMEA depuis 2017, qui a ravi le poste. Dans un monde souvent très masculin, la nomination d’une femme de 55 ans à l’une des fonctions les mieux placées de la gestion d’actifs en Europe - avec 985 milliards de livres sous gestion en 2018 - a été remarquée.
Elle va prendre la suite de Mark Zinkula, qui occupait le rôle depuis 2011 et a annoncé en mai dernier son souhait de partir. Michelle Scrimgeour prendra place une fois les formalités réglementaires en ordre et travaillera avec son prédécesseur avant le départ de ce dernier en août, précise le communiqué publié le 25 février. Michelle Scrimgeour va également intégrer le board de Legal & General.
Avant Columbia Threadneedle, Michelle Scrimgeour était chez M&G Investments, où elle a commencé à la tête des risques en 2012 avant d’être promue chief executive of Europe, Middle East and Africa. Auparavant, cette diplômée en français de l’université de Sheffield a passé de nombreuses années au sein de BlackRock (anciennement Merrill Lynch Investment Managers et Mercury Asset Management). Elle était membre du comité exécutif européen de Blackrock, qui gère les activités EMEA de l’entreprise et a supervisé l’intégration de BlackRock et BGI à Londres. Michelle Scrimgeour a également assuré des fonctions diverses portant sur différents secteurs et classes d’actifs, notamment comme chief operating officer pour les obligations internationales, responsable mondial des produits obligataires ou encore responsable des investissements alternatifs.
Michelle Scrimgeour travaillait chez M&G à l’époque où Anne Richards y était devenue directrice générale, avant que celle-ci ne rejoindre Fidelity International fin 2018 en qualité de CEO, devenant l’une des seules femmes avec une telle carrière dans la gestion d’actifs. En prenant la tête d'IM de Legal & General, Michelle Scrimgeour entre dans le top 15 des gérants aux près de 1.000 milliards de dollars ou plus. En tout, trois sont dirigés par des femmes : Fidelity Investment est présidé par Abigail Johnson et Mary Callahan Erdoes est CEO de JP Morgan Asset & Wealth Management.
Michelle Scrimgeour va devoir maintenir le rythme de croissance de Legal & General IM qui est passé d’environ 500 milliards de livres d’actifs sous gestion en 2012 à 985 milliards aujourd'hui. Si sa nouvelle firme n’a pas été celle qui a le plus souffert des sorties de capitaux aux Royaume-Uni, l’environnement n’est pas des plus confortables. D’autant que LGIM est très concentré sur le marché britannique, contrairement à ses rivaux.
