Faut-il voir dans les goûts d’Alexandra Neri un clin d’œil à ses origines grecques ? L’avocate-associée responsable de la pratique IP/TMT du cabinet d’avocats Herbert Smith Freehills a une appétence pour la philosophie. Si elle lit toutes sortes d’auteurs, c’est actuellement le taoïsme qui retient son attention. Alexandra Neri - qui a passé le barreau d’Athènes et de Paris - a aussi étudié le théâtre, la criminologie ou encore la gestion culturelle. Celle qui a dirigé toute jeune le théâtre d’art et d’essai du Châtelet, attend son premier enfant à 24 ans. C’est désormais mariée, qu’elle décide de trouver du travail.

Ayant eu la chance de faire un stage chez Gaumont - qui lui a permis de toucher à de multiples facettes de l’industrie - elle intègre le cabinet Bitoun, "pape du cinéma indépendant à l'époque". Alexandra Neri rejoint ensuite Thomas & Associés, qui sera par la suite fondu avec Deloitte et où elle restera pendant quatre ans. Période pendant laquelle elle commencera à s’ouvrir des portes chez Google. C’est une directrice juridique de Capgemini, avec laquelle elle avait travaillée et qui avait relevé son profil international, qui la met en contact avec trois cabinets, dont Herbert Smith Freehills. "J’ai eu un coup de foudre en constatant que nous partagions la même approche de la PI et des Nouvelles Technologies", rapporte Alexandra Neri.

Depuis 15 ans, elle n’a pas quitté la maison, ni son service qui compte deux associés et 10 collaborateurs. Son activité se divise en deux grands pans : "Nous avons une expertise en matière de propriété intellectuelle classique, mais également dans les problématiques nouvelles technologies et internationales, avec une grande dominante contentieux", rapporte Alexandra Neri. L’avocate a ainsi pu plancher sur des dossiers très médiatiques, comme le procès Google Adwords. Elle a aussi travaillé pour Twitter lorsque le hashtag "un bon juif est un juif mort" a fait scandale et alors que les autorités françaises souhaitaient savoir qui était derrière ce message. "Il y avait un conflit de lois, entre le 1er amendement américain qui garantit la liberté d’expression sans limites et la loi de 1881 sur la liberté de la presse qui sanctionne pénalement les discours haineux", explique l’associée.

Ce qu’aime Alexandra Neri dans son métier : "Les problématiques dont on s’occupe n’ont pas été traitées précédemment. Il faut faire preuve de créativité et de rigueur. C’est intellectuellement stimulant." L’avocate apprécie aussi le caractère international de ses sujets, qui nécessitent de trouver des solutions qui ne se contredisent pas les unes les autres. "Le souci pour les sociétés technologiques internationales, c’est d’harmoniser leurs conditions générales dans le monde, alors que les exigences légales et réglementaires ne sont pas les mêmes partout. Elles sont obligées de faire la balance des intérêts entre leurs objectifs stratégiques et économiques et les règles imposées par les législations nationales." De son côté, Alexandra Neri, aujourd’hui mère de trois enfants et qui a arrêté de compter les bougies depuis ses 35 ans, trouve son équilibre en partie grâce à la philosophie. "Elle vous apprend à relativiser, à mettre une saine distance avec les problématiques que vous traitez, à être persévérant."
