Quelles sont vos perspectives pour l’économie mondiale ? Avez-vous élaboré plusieurs scénarios selon l’évolution de la guerre en Ukraine ?
Nous anticipons un fort ralentissement l’année prochaine mais au final 2023 sera plutôt une année de stagnation qu’une grosse récession. Etats-Unis et Europe vont ralentir dans des mesures assez similaires finalement. Les Etats-Unis sont moins impactés par la crise énergétique (ils sont exportateurs nets de gaz et pétrole) mais ne bénéficieront pas des soutiens budgétaires massifs des gouvernements européens.
Notre scénario central pour la guerre en Ukraine est la poursuite des combats l’année prochaine qui se succéderont à plus ou moins forte intensité. Une paix permettrait une forte baisse des prix de l’énergie et des matières premières alors qu’un élargissement du conflit plongerait bien entendu l’économie mondiale dans une plus forte récession.
La récession est-elle inéluctable en Europe d’ici les prochains mois ? Et en France ?
En Europe comme en France, contrairement à beaucoup de scénarios trop pessimistes, 2022 aura finalement été une bonne année en termes de croissance (plus de 3% en Europe, autour de 2.5% en France soit 2 fois plus rapide que sa croissance d’équilibre) et d’emploi qui a atteint un nouveau plus bas historique en Europe (6,6%) ou en France au plus bas depuis 2008 avec un taux d’emploi au plus haut depuis 50 ans. Beaucoup dépendra les prochains mois de la capacité de l’Europe à se détourner durablement des énergies fossiles importées (en particulier de Russie) au profit d’énergies décarbonées moins coûteuses et moins risquées géopolitiquement.
Faut-il s’inquiéter d’un découplage entre les Etats-Unis et la zone euro ?
Les Etats Unis accélèrent massivement sur les énergies renouvelables (370 milliards d'euros) et avec des mesures favorisant le Made in America. L’Europe doit réagir pour protéger son outil industriel et sa compétitivité. L’Europe a plutôt de l’avance dans la transition énergétique et des acteurs pour la mener à bien mais il faut accélérer l’Européanisation de nos outils de production industriels et énergétiques. La résilience est à ce prix dans un monde qui voit la fin de la mondialisation telle qu’on l’a connue jusque-là.
Le ralentissement économique chinois vous préoccupe-t-il ?
La Chine est à contretemps elle a fortement ralenti cette année alors que l’Europe va enregistrer près de 3% de croissance (il y a plus de chômage en Chine qu’en Europe désormais !). En revanche les éléments récents semblent montrer un revirement sur la politique zéro Covid. Une réouverture chinoise accélérerait fortement l’économie chinoise et asiatique en 2023. Nous parions sur 5.5% en 2023 désormais. La croissance mondiale en 2023 sera de nouveau portée par l’Asie aux trois quarts.
L’inflation actuelle, d’où qu’elle vienne (matières premières, pénuries multiples, hausses de salaires), a-t-elle franchi son pic ?
Clairement avec 4 mois consécutifs de baisse cela semble le cas aux Etats-Unis. Pour l’Europe on ne doit plus en être loin avec une inflation dans la zone euro passée de 9,9% à 9% et des fortes baisses en Italie, Allemagne. Les plans de soutiens mis en œuvre qui permettent de faire baisser les prix de l’énergie vont jouer à plein.
Quelle influence auront les politiques monétaires des Banques centrales sur l’économie réelle et les marchés financiers en 2023 ?
On l’a vu cette année, les taux d’intérêt ont été le principal facteur influant dans la performance de l’ensemble des actifs que ce soit les actions, le crédit ou même les crypto. Le gros du mouvement de hausse des taux aura été fait, dans un mouvement d’ampleur inédite. Jamais la BCE n’avait monté de 200 points de base en si peu de temps. Le rythme devrait être dorénavant plus modéré et la fin du mouvement devrait avoir lieu au cours du premier trimestre 2023.
Après avoir été en retrait ces dernières années, pensez-vous que le sujet de la soutenabilité des dettes publiques pourrait être de nouveau l’objet de toutes les attentions ?
Tant que les taux ne remontent pas trop, qu’il y a un peu d’inflation et de croissance et que les politiques publiques sont plutôt raisonnables tout devrait bien se passer. On voit typiquement l’influence bénéfique de l’Europe qui en devenant de plus en plus fédérale protège par rapport à l’Angleterre qui s’est fait attaquer par les marchés ou en Italie où un gouvernement d’extrême droite doit continuer à avoir un agenda attendu de réformes pour bénéficier des aides européennes (190 milliards conditionnés à un certain nombre de réformes structurelles faisant cruellement défaut jusque-là).
Estimez-vous que le dollar va continuer de s’apprécier ? Quelles conséquences pour l’économie mondiale ?
Nous pensons que le dollar a vu son pic cette année et devrait se déprécier désormais que ce soit contre Euro (nous attendons 1,10 pour l’Euro) ou même contre la devise chinoise si la reprise s’y confirme. Globalement cela devrait atténuer aussi les tensions sur un certain nombre d’intervenants mais aussi aider à la baisse de l’inflation en Europe par exemple…
