Sofina investit dans la licorne Vinted
Selon les informations obtenues par WanSquare, la start-up lituanienne Vinted, très populaire auprès des jeunes européens en matière de revente de vêtements d’occasion, vient de procéder à une levée de fonds de 141 millions de dollars. Ce qui lui a permis de se valoriser pour un montant total de 1 milliard de dollars, acquérant ainsi le statut de "licorne".
À cette occasion la discrète holding belge Sofina a acquis une participation dans Vinted pour un montant non dévoilé. Au cours de l’année 2019 Sofina a réalisé trois nouveaux investissements dont l’acquisition d’une participation de 43% au capital de la société de cosmétiques Nuxe, aux côtés de sa fondatrice Aliza Jabès.
Sofina est la holding de la très riche famille Boël (qui possédait la sidérurgie belge). La société affiche aujourd’hui une valeur d’actif de 7,63 milliards d'euros à fin décembre. Ce qui représente une augmentation de plus de 16% par rapport à l'année précédente.
Vinted a été fondée en 2008 à Vilnius, en Lituanie, et offre une expérience mobile peer-to-peer aux utilisateurs pour vendre, acheter et échanger des vêtements d'occasion. Au cours des dernières années, Vinted a grandi pour opérer sur 11 marchés européens, employant plus de 300 personnes. La société a surfé sur les préoccupations croissantes de nombreux "millénials" concernant l'impact de la "fast fashion". Vinted a en fait débuté lorsque sa fondatrice Milda Mitkute a déménagé et a réalisé combien de vêtements non portés elle avait. D’où la création d’un site Web pour donner ses vêtements à ses amis.
