Semi-conducteurs : les mauvaises nouvelles volent en escadrille
Le secteur automobile faisait déjà état de retards de livraisons et arrêts des chaînes de montages au cours des deux derniers trimestres, provoqués par son approvisionnement au compte-gouttes en semi-conducteurs, étant donné la montée en puissance de l’électronique grand public qui s'est traduite par une pénurie mondiale en composants électroniques.
Une situation de crise aggravée depuis ce samedi par l’incendie de l’usine du fabricant Renesas Electronics au Japon. Le groupe nippon est le deuxième fournisseur mondial en semi-conducteurs automobiles et les deux tiers de la ligne touchée concernaient la production de puces destinées à ce secteur suivant les déclarations du directeur général de Renesas Electronics, Hidetoshi Shibata. Selon l’hypothèse la plus favorable, un mois sera nécessaire au groupe pour pallier les dégâts causés par l’incendie mais certains équipements pourraient nécessiter davantage de temps, étant difficilement remplaçables, ce qui pourrait retarder cette échéance. Les titres des groupes Toyota, Honda et Nissan ont immédiatement réagi, cédants respectivement 2,59 %, 3,63 % et 3,70 %.
Mais le problème va bien au-delà de cette coupure momentanée. En effet, Volvo, numéro 2 mondial des poids lourds, qui pourtant ne dépend pas du Japon mais de Taiwan pour son approvisionnement (70 % de ses puces proviennent de l’entreprise taïwanaise TSMC) a déclaré hier soir devoir observer des arrêts de production significatifs - ces jours d'arrêt devraient s'élever de "deux à quatre semaines suivant les sites de production" selon un communiqué - au cours du deuxième trimestre à cause du manque de pièces électroniques. Les analystes de Deutsche Bank estiment que la réduction du nombre de camions produits au cours des mois avril et juin s’élèvera à 16 000, ce qui devrait se traduire selon les analystes de Citi, par un manque à gagner de 3,6 milliards de couronnes suédoises ou 353 millions d'euros de bénéfice (avant impôt et charges financières) au deuxième trimestre.
Les annonces du constructeur suédois tiraient ce matin la Bourse de Stockholm vers le bas : le titre du constructeur automobile s’est replié de 6,66 % à 218,80 couronnes. Même constat pour ses homologues et concurrents allemands et français : le constructeur Daimler et la filiale de Volkswagen Traton perdaient respectivement 2,37 % et 2,77 %, et sur la Place de Paris Stellantis cédait 1,65 % et Renault 2,43 %. Si bien que l'indice de référence Stoxx automobile perdait 1,91 %, signant la plus forte baisse des indices sectoriels européens.
Car le groupe n’est pas le seul constructeur forcé de réduire sa production : Ford, Volkswagen, Stellantis y sont aussi contraints : en France, l’usine de Sochaux (Doubs) du groupement Stellantis a annoncé être à nouveau vouée à arrêter ses chaînes de production du 28 mars au soir au 29 mars au soir. Un scenario que l’usine historique de Peugeot, responsable de la fabrication des modèles 308, 3008, et 5008 et de l’Opel Grandland X, avait déjà connu le 16 mars dernier, empêchant ainsi la production de 3 500 véhicules selon les évaluations de Stellantis.
Et la situation pourrait s'empirer car ce manque survient tandis que la demande de l'Hexagone en semi-conducteurs n'a pas retrouvé son niveau de 2019. Après une contraction de 11 % à 1,575 milliard d’euros au cours de l'année 2020, elle se relève progressivement mais reste bien inférieure à son niveau d'avant-crise. Au quatrième trimestre de l'année dernière alors que l'industrie automobile (qui représentait en 2020 34 % du marché français des puces électroniques) connaissait un fort rebond, le marché français des semi-conducteurs était encore en baisse de 8 % en glissement annuel (malgré une hausse séquentielle de 13 %) à 411 millions d’euros.
