Les dix menaces qui planent au-dessus des marchés financiers en 2022
Après une année 2021 euphorique, comment imaginer 2022 ? Si aucun nuage noir ne point pour l'instant à l'horizon, il est salutaire d'identifier les "cygnes noirs" potentiels qui, même improbables, provoqueraient un véritable retournement des marchés, qui ont commencé cette année en établissant de nouveaux records. Saxo Bank s'est consacré à l'exercice, dressant une liste de dix "événements improbables mais sous estimés", susceptibles d’avoir une onde de choc extrêmement forte sur les marchés financiers.
Plusieurs typologies d’évènement se retrouvent dans la publication de la banque d’investissement danoise ; les différents risques politiques, les risques liés à la technologie et ceux liés aux questions de développement durable. Il ne s’agit bien sûr pas de prévisions de marché officielles de la part de Saxo Bank ; mais l'établissement danois effectue une mise en garde contre une "mauvaise répartition potentielle du risque parmi les investisseurs", ce qui explique que les risques identifiés sont aussi ceux qui vont le plus à l’encontre du consensus.
Parmi les risques politiques, les élections américaines de mi-mandat pourraient entraîner une crise constitutionnelle, avec une certification des résultats rendue très compliquée et qui empêcherait le nouveau Congrès de siéger dès le 3 janvier 2023. Le président Joe Biden serait alors obligé de gouverner par décret devant cette impasse politique. Autant d’incertitudes qui mèneraient à une volatilité très forte des actifs américains, à une hausse du rendement des obligations du Trésor et à une baisse du dollar. Un deuxième risque politique concerne à nouveau les États-Unis et cette fois-ci une erreur d'interprétation de sa Banque centrale. La Réserve fédérale penserait à tort que la participation au marché du travail remonterait outre-Atlantique ; l’inflation et la croissance des salaires atteindraient alors des sommets record depuis les années soixante-dix. La volatilité sur les marchés d’actions et de crédit américains serait alors sans précédent.
Un autre scénario choc serait celui-ci d’une Inde qui rejoindrait le Conseil de coopération du Golfe afin de garantir sa sécurité énergétique, en prenant des engagements d’importation à long terme. Une hypothèse qui rendrait la roupie indienne bien plus résistante tout en permettant à son marché boursier d’être un peu moins volatil.
Le dernier risque politique pour 2022 réside dans une course aux technologies hypersoniques qui entraînerait une confrontation semblable à celle de la course à l’espace en son temps. Les entreprises qui développent des technologies hypersoniques bénéficieraient d’un financement massif aux dépens des entreprises de "matériel conventionnel" notamment dans le secteur naval et aéronautique.
Concernant les évènements liés aux technologies, un des scénarios mis en avant par Saxo Bank imagine l'échec de Facebook à convaincre la jeunesse d’adhérer à son projet de Metaverse. Il s’ensuivrait un échec du rêve de monopole de Zuckerberg, la capitalisation de sa société Meta pourrait baisser de 30 % et il pourrait se voir sommer de scinder le trust qu’il a constitué depuis des années.
La technologie permettrait l’émergence d’un autre évènement aux conséquences importante pour les marchés : un mouvement #metoo sur les places financières. Les femmes arriveraient à se coordonner sur les réseaux sociaux pour mettre à profit leur taux d’épargne plus élevé pour faire de l’activisme contre les entreprises considérées comme "patriarcales". Loin d’être dénoncée par le pouvoir politique, cette initiative serait encouragée et aboutirait à une très grande pression des marchés envers les entreprises qui n’appliquent pas la parité sous toutes ses formes.
Les derniers développements liés à la blockchain et au NFT pourraient révolutionner l’industrie musicale selon la banque danoise, puisque les droits musicaux pourraient ne plus être captés en grande partie pas les intermédiaires que sont les labels et les plateformes de streaming. Aujourd’hui près de 75 % des revenus sont captés par ces intermédiaires, une révolution vers un système qui s’adresse directement au consommateur pourrait faire plonger la valorisation de nombre d’entreprises. Tout comme cela pourrait entraîner un bouleversement de l’industrie cinématographique devant cette révolution du quatrième art.
La dernière famille de risque évoquée par la banque danoise est liée à des questions de développement durable. Par exemple des impératifs politiques qui pousseraient les décideurs à mettre un frein à la transition énergétique pour des visées électorales et de paix sociale. S’ensuivrait un regain considérable du secteur de l’énergie et de tous ses composants. Autre éventualité, la volonté politique de trouver une solution à l’impasse du financement des priorités de l’Europe (la transition énergétique, le climat et les sujets de Défense) pousserait les dirigeants européens à consacrer toutes les pensions des travailleurs à des obligations Superfund consacrés à ces priorités. Les rendements de toute l’Europe s’harmoniseraient avec ce nouveau mécanisme et nombre d’entreprises européennes deviendraient les leaders de leurs secteurs grâce à cet afflux de liquidité. Enfin, une avancée fulgurante de la médecine qui prolongerait d’un quart de siècle l’espérance de vie, une solution qui apporterait d’énormes dilemmes éthiques, financiers et écologiques.
