Un spécialiste de l’Afrique nommé chef économiste de l’Agence française de développement / Thomas Melonio y a réalisé presque toute sa carrière
Cet ex-conseiller Afrique du président de la République François Hollande a été nommé chef économiste de l’Agence française de développement. Fonction que ce docteur en économie passé par HEC occupera en plus de celle de directeur exécutif innovation, stratégie et recherche qui est la sienne depuis près de cinq ans.

L’Agence française de développement se dote d’un nouveau chef économiste. Le choix du groupe qui met en œuvre la politique de la France en matière de développement et de solidarité internationale s’est porté sur Thomas Melonio. Ce dernier sera chef économiste en plus d’être déjà directeur exécutif innovation, stratégie et recherche, poste qu’il occupe depuis septembre 2018.
Cette direction est notamment en charge "d’accompagner les pays partenaires de l’AFD dans leurs trajectoires vers un développement plus durable, elle produit en effet des travaux de recherche économique et sociale, évalue les projets financés par l’AFD, forme des cadres de pays en développement, finance des projets innovants dans le domaine de l’environnement", précise l’organisme.
Thomas Melonio est diplômé d’HEC ainsi que de l’Institut d’études politiques (IEP), école au sein de laquelle il a réalisé un doctorat portant sur le capital humain, ce sous la direction de l’ancien patron de l’OFCE Jean-Paul Fitoussi. Il intègre l’AFD en 2005 comme éditeur de plusieurs publications de recherche (La lettre des économistes, Afrique contemporaine, Regards sur la Terre), avant de rejoindre le département de la Recherche. Ses travaux se concentreront sur le financement de l’éducation, de l’enseignement supérieur, les prêts étudiants ou encore les migrations internationales.
Puis, de 2012 à 2017, il devient conseiller adjoint puis conseiller Afrique de François Hollande, alors président de la République. Après avoir quitté l’Élysée, il signe son retour à l’AFD en qualité de directeur des partenariats avant de devenir directeur exécutif Innovation, stratégie et recherche.
