Hubert Preschez quitte HSBC pour Messier & Associés
C'est à ce jour le transfert de l'année dans le mercato de la finance française : Hubert Preschez, responsable de la Banque de financement et d'investissement (BFI) de HSBC en France, va rejoindre Messier & Associés à la fin du mois de juillet. Le professionnel français, âgé de 50 ans, a déposé sa démission ce matin même. Il siègera au conseil d'administration de la boutique, fondée par Jean-Marie Messier et Erik Maris en 2010 et qui s'est rapprochée de Mediobanca en 2019. Il siègera d'ailleurs également au comité exécutif de la BFI de l'établissement italien.
Deux facteurs ont probablement convaincu l'ancien médiatique patron de Vivendi de débaucher Hubert Preschez : le projet d'acquisition chaotique mais réussi de Suez par Veolia, lancé l'été dernier d'une part (les deux hommes conseillaient tous deux Veolia et s'apprécient) et le départ d'Erik Maris de la boutique (qui portait encore le nom de Messier Maris & Associés), recruté par le fonds Advent fin octobre dernier sur fond de désaccord avec son ancien partenaire. Jean-Marie Messier avait besoin d'un nouvel associé. Le conseil d'administration de la boutique comprendra à nouveau trois membres, l'autre étant Alberto Nagel, directeur général de Mediobanca - l'établissement transalpin détient les deux tiers du capital de Messier & Associés. De quoi favoriser les mandats croisés : la boutique est en mesure de proposer les produits financiers de la banque italienne à ses clients en M&A.
Le changement de stratégie de HSBC depuis plusieurs années, qui ne considère plus l'Europe continentale comme une priorité, a probablement joué dans la décision d'Hubert Preschez de quitter la maison anglo-asiatique seulement trois ans après son arrivée.
Surtout connu pour être un banquier de M&A, Hubert Preschez a déjà dirigé dans sa carrière des équipes chargées des marchés de capitaux comme de financement. C'est pourquoi il apportera également sa contribution comme apporteur d'affaires aux activités Equity Capital Market, Debt Capital Market et financement de LBO de Mediobanca en France.
C'est une belle prise pour Messier & Associés. En vingt ans de carrière chez JPMorgan, la Société Générale et HSBC, Hubert Preschez a conseillé pour environ 100 milliards d'euros de transactions. Ainsi, en plus de l'opération Suez/Veolia, lui et ses équipes ont notamment conseillé la Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec dans sa montée au capital d'Alstom, la cession de l'activité de distribution de Saint-Gobain aux Pays-Bas, l'entrée au capital de la CDC (dont Hubert Preschez est proche) dans Orange Concessions, ou encore l'acquisition de Cooper par Charterhouse, tandis qu'ils ont co-organisé l'OPA de Capgemini sur Altran et la réorganisation du capital d'Air France. Hubert Preschez est également proche d'Engie.
