Encore un départ pour Michel Combes
Le directeur général de SoftBank, Michel Combes n’aura pas fait long feu. La holding japonaise vient d'annoncer son départ. Directeur financier de Sprint, une entreprise américaine de télécommunication, depuis 2018, il avait quitté son poste en avril 2020 pour rejoindre l'actionnaire majoritaire de la société : Softbank Group International, en tant que président.
Désigné directeur général opérations en janvier 2022, Michel Combes a finalement donné sa démission. S'il n'invoque aucune fâcherie en interne, il quittera définitivement ses fonctions d'ici quelques jours, son successeur Alex Clavel, un américain de 48 ans venu de la banque Morgan Stanley prenant ses fonctions le 30 juin. Michel Combes continuera cependant de représenter la société dans certains conseils d'administration.
Expert des télécoms, il a été à la tête de grandes entreprises du secteur. Il était notamment à partir de 2002 directeur financier chez France Télécom (devenu Orange) qu'il avait rejoint en 1985. Quatre ans plus tard, il devient directeur général et président de Télédiffusion de France (TDF) avant de prendre la direction, deux ans plus tard, de Vodafone pour l'Europe. A ce titre, il était administrateur de Vodafone Group Plc jusqu’à 2012.
En avril 2013, il rejoint le groupe Alcatel-Lucent toujours en qualité de directeur avant de claquer la porte, deux ans plus tard, suscitant ainsi de violentes réactions notamment en raison de sa prime de départ proche de 13,7 millions d'euros. Une sortie tumultueuse pour Michel Combes qui intègre finalement Altice (Numéricable-SFR) où il occupera les fonctions de directeur général. Une nouvelle fois, en 2017, son départ fait une polémique, sa démission étant accompagnée d’un nouveau "parachute doré" à plus de 9 millions d’euros.
Cette sortie l’entraînera chez Sprint, entreprise américaine de télécommunication, où il deviendra directeur général. Un poste qu’il avait aussi abandonné en avril 2020 pour prendre la présidence de SoftBank Group International.

Ce départ est nouveau coup dur pour le groupe, après le départ de Marcelo Claure, le précédent directeur général en janvier 2022. SoftBank accuse un deuxième changement de gouvernance en moins de six mois.
Une démission qui survient à un moment particulièrement délicat pour la firme qui subit une chute vertigineuse. Le groupe ébranlé par une perte nette record de 12,5 milliards d’euros sur l’exercice 2021-2022 enregistre une baisse de la marge nette de 27,45% entre 2021 et 2022.
