Le tourisme mondial toujours plus proche de son niveau pré-pandémique / Demande très vigoureuse en Europe
La reprise du tourisme mondial ne se dément pas. D’après le dernier numéro en date du baromètre établi par l’Organisation mondiale du tourisme (OMT), environ 790 millions de touristes ont voyagé à l’étranger au cours des sept premiers mois 2024, soit près de 11 % de plus qu’en 2023 et seulement 4 % de moins qu’en 2019. Les données font apparaître un début d’année dynamique, suivi d’un deuxième trimestre plus modeste. Les résultats sont conformes aux prévisions de l’OMT qui tablaient sur un rétablissement complet des arrivées internationales en 2024, malgré les risques économiques et géopolitiques actuels.
"Le tourisme international est sur la voie d’un rétablissement complet après la crise la plus grave de l’histoire du secteur. La reprise actuelle, en dépit des divers défis économiques et géopolitiques, traduit la forte demande de voyages internationaux de même que l’efficacité des mesures pour développer les liaisons aériennes et assouplir les restrictions en matière de visas. Cette reprise souligne également le besoin croissant de planifier et de gérer le tourisme en tenant compte de ses impacts pour les populations, de sorte que ses immenses retombées socio-économiques s’accompagnent de politiques inclusives et durables", a déclaré Zurab Pololikashvili, secrétaire général de l’Organisation mondiale du tourisme.
D’après l’OMT, la reprise actuelle traduit la forte demande de voyages internationaux de même que l’efficacité des mesures pour développer les liaisons aériennes et assouplir les restrictions en matière de visas. Dans le détail, le Moyen-Orient connaît la plus forte croissance en termes relatifs, avec des arrivées internationales supérieures de 26 % à leurs niveaux de 2019 au cours des sept premiers mois 2024. L’Afrique a reçu 7 % de touristes en plus que pendant la même période en 2019. De leur côté, l’Europe et les Amériques ont retrouvé 99 % et 97 %, respectivement, de leurs niveaux d’arrivées d’avant la pandémie au cours de ces sept mois. Enfin, l’Asie-Pacifique enregistre un nombre de touristes se situant à 82 % des chiffres d’avant la pandémie (-18 % par rapport à 2019) et atteignant 85 % en juin et 86 % en juillet.
Les données relatives aux dépenses du tourisme international traduisent une forte demande de voyages à l’étranger au cours de la période allant de janvier à juillet 2024, surtout en provenance de grands marchés émetteurs tels que les États-Unis d’Amérique (+ 32 %), l’Allemagne (+ 38 %) et le Royaume-Uni (+ 40 % jusqu’en mars), comparé à la même période en 2019. Ont également communiqué de fortes dépenses du tourisme émetteur l’Australie (+ 34 %), le Canada (+ 28 %) et l’Italie (+ 26 %), tous pendant la période jusqu’en juin 2024. Les données limitées en provenance de l’Inde montrent une hausse spectaculaire des dépenses de tourisme émetteur, en progression de 86 % au premier trimestre 2024 (par rapport au premier trimestre 2019).
Rappelons que les recettes d’exportation du tourisme international ont atteint 1 800 milliards de dollars (incluant les recettes et le transport de passagers), soit quasiment le même niveau qu’avant la pandémie (-1 % en termes réels par rapport à 2019). Le Produit intérieur brut (PIB) direct du tourisme, lui, est revenu également à son niveau d’avant la pandémie en 2023, pour atteindre, selon les estimations, 3 400 milliards de dollars soit 3 % du PIB mondial. En 2019, la contribution directe du tourisme au PIB mondial était de 4 %.
D’après les experts, qui sont confiants pour cette fin d’année, les principaux défis pour le tourisme mondial sont l’inflation, et plus précisément les prix élevés de transport et d’hébergement, la situation économique mondiale, la pénurie de personnel et les phénomènes météorologiques extrêmes.
