Des faillites records au Royaume-Uni ?
Sans une aide supplémentaire du gouvernement pour faire face aux effets de la pandémie, une petite entreprise britannique sur vingt pourrait fermer dans les 12 prochains mois, selon une enquête de la Fédération des petites entreprises (FSB). Un niveau record dans l'histoire de ce baromètre, qui existe depuis dix ans et qui atteint plus du double du chiffre comparable de l'année dernière : 250.000 petites entreprises pourraient ainsi disparaître, dit la FSB, qui base ses prévisions sur une enquête menée auprès de 1 400 petites entreprises, dont 5 % ont déclaré qu'elles prévoyaient de fermer cette année.
Et le plus inquiétant est que cette appréciation de la situation économique par les entreprises date d’avant le fort durcissement des mesures de restriction annoncé par Boris Johnson il y a une semaine. "Le développement des mesures de soutien aux entreprises n'a pas suivi le rythme de l'intensification des restrictions", a alerté Mark Cherry, président de la FSB. Ce dernier a expliqué qu’il y a certes des dispositifs de soutien significatif pour les petits commerces, les restaurants et les loisirs, toutefois "le gouvernement doit prendre en compte le fait que la communauté des PME dépasse largement ces trois secteurs". Dans le détail de l’enquête, près d'un quart (23 %) des petites entreprises ont réduit le nombre de leurs employés au cours du dernier trimestre, contre 13 % au début de l'année dernière. Une entreprise sur sept (14%) déclare qu'elle sera obligée de réduire ses effectifs au cours des trois prochains mois. Par ailleurs, la proportion de petites entreprises qui prévoient une réduction de leur rentabilité pour le trimestre à venir a augmenté en flèche au cours de l'année dernière, passant de 38 % à 58 %, soit un niveau record.
Déjà la semaine dernière, l’instance de régulation du secteur financier britannique (FCA) avait expliqué avoir identifié 4.000 sociétés financières, surtout de petite et moyenne taille, susceptibles de déposer le bilan. La Banque d’Angleterre, elle, avait récemment estimé que les banques britanniques seraient résilientes face aux risques combinés du Brexit et de la crise pandémique.
