Arrêt du Boeing 737 Max : et les sous-traitants français ?

Boeing vient d’annoncer la suspension de la production du 737 Max, faute d'avoir obtenu le feu vert des autorités cette année. Une nouvelle qui impacte violemment le groupe, l’économie américaine, mais aussi les sous-traitants français comme Safran, Figeac Aéro, Daher, Latecoere etc.

Le couperet est finalement tombé. Neuf mois après avoir été interdit de vol en raison des deux accidents mortels qu’il a provoqués, Boeing a finalement annoncé lundi soir qu’il suspendait la production du 737 Max à partir de janvier prochain. Alors qu’il espérait encore récemment obtenir le feu vert de mise en circulation de l’appareil à la mi-décembre, l’avionneur américain avait été sèchement rappelé à l’ordre par la FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), estimant qu’il devait se montrer réaliste. Surtout depuis que le patron de la FAA a reconnu lors d’une audition avoir tardé à réagir après les deux accidents, et qu’une étude menée après le premier crash a démontré que le 737 Max aurait pu avoir 15 accidents sur les 45 ans de son existence, soit un risque potentiel pesant sur 2.900 personnes.

Le coup est très dur pour la société, qui vit la plus grave crise de son histoire et a déjà annoncé 8 milliards de dollars de coûts, qui sont amenés à être largement revus à la hausse. Le groupe emploie 12.000 personnes dans son usine de Renton, près de Seattle, mais a indiqué qu’elles seraient redéployées à d’autres projets afin d’éviter des licenciements pour le moment. Mais une telle décision de la part du plus gros poids lourd industriel américain aura un impact sur l’économie entière du pays : 0,3 point de PIB selon le chef économiste de Wilmington Trust.

Surtout, Boeing compte plus de 600 sous-traitants à travers le monde, dont une trentaine en France avec des expositions diverses : Safran, Figea Aéro, Daher, Latecoere etc. qui ont déjà été impactés depuis avril dernier, lorsque le groupe de Dennis Muilenberg avait décidé de réduire sa production de 52 à 42 appareils par mois. Le plus important d’entre eux est bien sûr Safran, qui associé à General Electric - via la holding CFM International - fournit le moteur Leap du Boeing 737 Max. Le motoriste avait évalué en septembre le coût de la crise du 737 Max à 300 millions d’euros par trimestre, soit d’ores et déjà 800 millions d’euros. Mais il a réussi à compenser en partie ce manque-à-gagner par les prouesses commerciales d’Airbus, et compte également se rattraper lors de la livraison des appareils. Tout en se positionnant, à plus long terme, comme partenaire privilégié d’un éventuel successeur au 737 Max.

Même chose pour Figeac Aéro, qui produit des pièces de ce fameux moteur et a reconnu à l’automne dernier ressentir les conséquences de ce ralentissement, tout en ayant compensé jusqu’à présent. Ce dernier a alors indiqué que tout dépendrait de la durée de la baisse de production – et aujourd’hui de sa suspension – et de la cadence de reprise. Selon le Seattle Times, la suspension de production devrait durer 60 jours, mais ce seront probablement les plus petits sous-traitants, aux reins moins solides, qui seront le plus durement impactés par cette période, sans avoir de levier de négociation avec le tout-puissant Boeing.
