Le Conseil des gouverneurs de la Banque centrale européenne (BCE) a proposé la nomination de la numéro deux de la Bundesbank en qualité de présidente du Conseil de surveillance prudentielle. Il faut désormais que la nomination de l’économiste allemande soit approuvée par le Parlement européen et confirmée par le Conseil de l’Union européenne.

Le gendarme bancaire européen est sur le point d’être dirigé par une Allemande. Le Conseil des gouverneurs de la Banque centrale européenne (BCE) a proposé la nomination de Claudia Buch, vice-présidente de la Bundesbank, en tant que présidente du Conseil de surveillance prudentielle. Rappelons que le conseil de surveillance prudentielle de la BCE se compose d’un président, d’un vice-président, de quatre représentants de la BCE et de représentants des autorités prudentielles nationales qui participent à la supervision bancaire européenne.
Si la candidature de Claudia Buch est approuvée par le Parlement européen et confirmée par le Conseil de l’Union européenne, elle succédera à Andrea Enria le 1er janvier 2024, ce dans le cadre d’un mandat de cinq ans non-renouvelable.
Âgée de 57 ans, Claudia Buch est diplômée en économie de l’université de Bonn et a obtenu un master en administration des affaires à l’université du Wisconsin. Au sortir de ses études, Claudia Buch a travaillé au sein de l’institut économique de Kiel. En parallèle, elle fut directrice scientifique de l’Institut de recherche économique appliquée (IAW) de Tübingen, professeure de finance internationale et de macroéconomie à l’université de Tübingen.
En outre, elle a été présidente de l’Institut de recherche économique de Halle. Mais surtout, deux ans durant, avant son entrée à la Banque centrale allemande en 2014, Claudia Buch a été membre du Conseil allemand des experts économiques, un organe chargé d’aiguiller l’exécutif ultra-rhénan en matière de politique économique.
