Le PDG de Boeing est-il en danger ?
Denis Muilenburg a déjà perdu sa casquette de président du Conseil d'administration et les turbulences pourraient s'aggraver dans les prochains mois.

Le dossier du Boeing 737 MAX, qui a fait des centaines de morts, n'aura pas laissé l'entreprise intacte, mais surtout, comme c'est souvent le cas dans ce genre de scandale, il a ébranlé l'équipe de direction. Le PDG de Boeing, Denis Muilenburg, ne sera désormais plus que directeur général du géant aéronautique américain et sera remplacé par David Calhoun, son administrateur principal indépendant et cadre de Blackstone Group. C'est ce qui a été annoncé vendredi, en même temps que la publication d'un rapport critique sur le dossier du modèle d'avion défectueux.
Officiellement, la scission devra permettre à l'ancien PDG de se concentrer à temps plein sur l'exploitation de l'entreprise tout en travaillant à remettre le 737 Max en service en toute sécurité. Denis Muilenburg, qui a effectué toute sa carrière chez Boeing, pourra plaider sa cause le 30 octobre à l'occasion d'une audition très attendue devant des parlementaires américains, et c'est la première fois qu'un dirigeant de Boeing répondra aux questions des élus sur cette crise, qui a déjà coûté plus de 8 milliards de dollars à l'avionneur. La série des 737 était la bête de somme des compagnies aériennes modernes et le 737 MAX monocouloir restait il y a encore peu l’appareil le plus vendu de Boeing.
D'un pilote d'entreprise aguerri qui a débuté il y a trente ans comme simple stagiaire, Denis Muilenburg devient la tête à abattre. S'adressant aux médias à la veille du Salon du Bourget et pour la deuxième fois seulement depuis le second accident du 737 Max en mars - cloué au sol depuis sept mois -, Dennis Muilenburg a déclaré que les communications de Boeing étaient un domaine où "nous aurions pu et dû faire mieux". C'est justement ce manque de communication, et parfois d'humanité, qui lui ont été reprochés et qui pourraient bientôt lui coûter sa place. Il avait initialement rejeté la faute sur les pilotes de Lion Air, ce qui a suscité la consternation générale. Nous en saurons plus le 30 octobre prochain donc, mais une chose est sûre, dans toutes les entreprises où le PDG s'est vu retirer la casquette de président, il n'est pas resté en place longtemps au poste de directeur général.
